Laptop Upgrade Services

Is your laptop running slowly or no longer meeting your needs?

Net On Cosmos | PCW.GR provides laptop upgrade services for devices running Microsoft Windows, for home users, freelancers, and small businesses.

Before deciding to purchase a new laptop, it is worth considering whether a targeted upgrade could significantly improve performance and extend the lifespan of your existing computer.

Every laptop is assessed individually to determine which upgrades it supports and whether the expected improvement justifies the overall cost.

When does a laptop need an upgrade?

An upgrade may be beneficial if your laptop:

  • Takes a long time to boot into Microsoft Windows.
  • Opens applications and files slowly.
  • Becomes unresponsive when several applications are running at the same time.
  • Has limited storage capacity.
  • Has insufficient RAM.
  • Still uses a traditional mechanical HDD.
  • Slows down when working with multiple browser tabs or demanding applications.
  • No longer meets your day-to-day or business requirements.
Laptop upgrade services

Depending on the laptop’s configuration, specifications, and upgrade options, we provide:

  • Replacement of a mechanical HDD with a SATA or M.2 SSD.
  • Installation or replacement of an M.2 NVMe SSD, where supported.
  • RAM upgrades, where technically feasible.
  • Cloning of the existing drive to the new SSD or NVMe SSD.
  • Clean installation of Microsoft Windows, where required.
  • Transfer of personal files from the old drive to the new one.
  • Installation of drivers and required updates.
  • Internal cleaning and replacement of thermal paste, where required.
HDD to SSD upgrade: The most effective upgrade for a laptop

Replacing a traditional mechanical HDD with an SSD is usually one of the most effective upgrades that can be performed on a laptop.

An SSD can significantly reduce Microsoft Windows startup times, speed up the opening of applications and files, and noticeably improve the laptop’s overall responsiveness.

On laptops with M.2 NVMe support, a modern M.2 NVMe SSD can be installed, offering higher speeds than a conventional SATA SSD.

For older laptops that do not support NVMe, installing a SATA SSD can still provide a cost-effective and highly noticeable performance improvement.

Disk cloning or a clean Windows installation?

If the existing drive and operating system are in good condition, the system can be cloned to the new SSD or NVMe SSD.

Disk cloning can preserve the existing Microsoft Windows installation, applications, personal files, and basic system settings.

Once the process is complete, the laptop can start from the new drive without requiring the applications to be reinstalled or the personal settings to be configured again.

If the existing drive has problems, the operating system is not functioning correctly, malware is present, or the installation cannot be transferred safely, a clean installation of Microsoft Windows may be recommended.

In this case, personal files can also be transferred from the old drive to the new one, provided that the data is accessible and can be copied safely.

Laptop RAM upgrade

Increasing the amount of RAM can noticeably improve laptop performance when several applications, multiple browser tabs, or demanding professional software are used at the same time.

Before carrying out the upgrade, we check:

  • The type of RAM currently installed.
  • The RAM speed and operating frequency.
  • The number of available memory slots.
  • The maximum memory capacity supported by the laptop.
  • The compatibility of the new memory with the existing modules.

In some modern and particularly thin laptops, the RAM is soldered directly to the motherboard and cannot be replaced or increased.

For this reason, upgrade options must be checked according to the laptop’s exact model and configuration.

Can all laptops be upgraded?

Not all laptops offer the same upgrade options.

In some models, the RAM or storage may be soldered directly to the motherboard. Other models may have only one available slot or may support only specific types and capacities of SSD or RAM.

In addition, the processor and graphics processor in most laptops are soldered to or integrated into the motherboard and usually cannot be upgraded.

Before recommending any work, we check the manufacturer’s specifications and the configuration of the specific laptop to determine which changes are technically feasible and financially worthwhile.

Internal cleaning and thermal paste replacement

Dust accumulating inside a laptop can restrict airflow and increase operating temperatures.

High operating temperatures may lead to increased fan noise, reduced performance, unexpected shutdowns, or processor throttling for protection.

Where required, the laptop’s cooling system can be cleaned internally and the processor’s thermal paste can be replaced.

This work does not upgrade the laptop’s technical specifications, but it can contribute to improved cooling, more stable operation, and better preservation of its performance.

What does the laptop upgrade service include?

Depending on the type of upgrade, the service may include:

  • Initial inspection of the laptop.
  • Assessment of the existing drive and operating system.
  • Hardware compatibility checks.
  • Recommendations for suitable upgrade options.
  • Installation and connection of the new SSD, NVMe SSD, or RAM.
  • Cloning of the existing drive, where technically feasible.
  • Clean installation of Microsoft Windows (Windows format), where required.
  • Transfer of personal files, where requested and technically feasible.
  • Installation of drivers and required updates.
  • Internal cleaning and thermal paste replacement, where required.
  • Testing to verify correct operation, system stability, and operating temperatures.

We recommend an upgrade only when it can provide a meaningful improvement in relation to the overall cost.

How long does a laptop upgrade take?

SSD upgrades can usually be completed within one business day, depending on hardware availability, the condition of the laptop, and the amount of data that needs to be transferred.

Cloning a large amount of data, performing a clean installation of Microsoft Windows, transferring files, or carrying out a more complex disassembly process may require additional time.

The estimated completion time is provided after the initial inspection of the laptop.
